St. Vincent de Paul
In a continuing effort to give back to the local
community, employees of the Payless Car Rental corporate office
assist in feeding the homeless at a local St. Vincent de Paul Soup
Kitchen in St.Petersburg, FL.
The range of volunteers vary from day to day and are from all
walks of life, although the responsibilities of the soup kitchen
never change. There is a Ms. JoeAnn Lemon in every facility,
one who manages the kitchen and assigns each volunteer their
specific tasks for the duration of their job. Some of these tasks
may include: greeting people at the door, signing them in with
a numbered ticket, preparing the food and serving the food, dish
duty, and clean up. It’s a fast-paced atmosphere for the
1 hour serving duration that occurs 365 days a year for breakfast,
lunch and dinner.
St. Vincent de Paul is international relief organization
of men and women whose members assist and administer to the poor
and unfortunate. Founded in 1833 by Frederick Ozanam, he along
with other students attending the University of Paris wanted
to address the needs of the poor, but wanted also to improve
the lives of young people urging them to perform works of charity.
Today there are thousands of active conferences around the
world with close to a million active members. Over $200 million
in direct assistance is distributed annually to the poor throughout
the US alone.
Payless Car Rental realizes the lack of comprehensive services
available to people in need and that’s why they have devoted
themselves to making a difference.
Their volunteer work will continue at the local soup kitchen
with the hope that their dedication to making a difference will
catch on. For more information on volunteering, contact your
local St. Vincent de Paul Society.
