Things to Do in Myrtle Beach, SC
Myrtle Beach is a popular resort city on the sundrenched northeast coast of South Carolina, known as the Grand Strand. It is best known for its beautiful beach, golf courses, shopping and excellent nightlife. The resort attracts families, couples and thousands of youngsters at Spring Break.
Promoting itself as the "Seafood Capital" of the state, Myrtle Beach has numerous dining opportunities for enjoying locally caught fish and seafood from both the freshwater creeks and the Atlantic Ocean. For choice, Broadway at the Beach is hard to beat with 23 restaurants arranged on a boardwalk around a lake. Despite its name, it is about 2 miles from most oceanfront hotels. From Shuckers Raw Bar to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville there is something for everyone. After dining out, there are theaters, clubs, pubs and cigar lounges to continue your night out in style.
First time visitors to the Myrtle Beach area may want to start with a visit to the Visitors Bureau at the Myrtle Beach Area Convention Center on North Oak Street. The purpose of your visit is not to find out what to do, but how to choose what you really want to do from all the hundreds of things on offer!
Cultural Attractions in Myrtle Beach
The Myrtle Beach Arts Scene largely revolves around the Franklin G. Burroughs-Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum which is a must-see for art lovers. Located on S. Ocean Blvd, it includes a permanent collection, changing exhibits, a library and working studios for visitors to indulge their visual senses. Admission is free. There are also plenty of small art galleries dotted around the city.
Myrtle Beach is not big on history; after all, the city was only granted city status in 1957. However, the Horry County Museum at neighboring Conway does a good job of local history. The South Carolina Hall of Fame is where local celebrities are remembered and it is free to enjoy in the Lobby of the Convention Center.
Myrtle Beach is a great destination for enjoying a festival and there are tons of events and happenings all year long - another good reason to start your visit at the Visitor Centre. There is a Sun Fun Festival in June, a Beach Boogie and BBQ Festival in September and a Canadian-Americans Days Festival in March.
For theatres and shows, there are not enough nights in the week to enjoy them all. Legends in Concert is the World's Greatest Live Tribute Show with impersonators offering the music of Madonna, Rod Stewart, Elvis, Britney Spears among others. Prepare to be wowed!
